The PGA HOPE program in Philadelphia is home to more than just veterans who want to better their golf game; The membership is full of people like Squad Leader, Joe Hart, who devote their careers to helping veterans in need.
During his time in the Navy following the first Gulf War, Joe served on the USS Nimitz as an Aviation Boatswains Mate. Upon returning home, he joined the Department of Veterans Affairs as an outreach specialist with the Vet Center program, attending veteran-centered events and providing education on the services offered by the Vet Center as well as the full range of VA benefits.
Joe learned about PGA HOPE through a colleague who participated in a program in 2018. Soon after, he could not sign up fast enough for the program at his local chapter at Indian Spring Country Club and has been an active participant ever since. He now is the current Squad Leader at Indian Springs Country Club and travels to other programs to help out as needed.
“PGA Hope has become very important to me over the last six plus years,” Joe said. “The Veterans I’ve met through the program have become good friends. The comradery we share while on the range, in the bunkers or at the practice greens is similar to the way it felt training with my old shipmates.”With the HOPE Program as his platform, Joe Hart connects veterans to vital resources, building trust and community through their common love of golf.
